NSBC Newsletter 24 18 9 2020

Jesus Did This” – a new book of testimonies. Please see the separate message about this exciting project. Prayerfully consider whether you have a story to share of ways Jesus has blessed you.

WEDNESDAY MORNINGS “Not a Picnic Not in the Park” will NOT happen next Wednesday 23rd.

THURSDAY EVENING ZOOM will not happen next week. The next will be 7.30 Thursday 1st October

Rebekah was due to step down as Treasurer early in the year but kindly continued in post to see us through the worst of the Covid lockdown. We are immensely grateful to her for more than a dozen years of hard work in that role! From now, Rebekah continues her term as a Deacon but has handed the responsibility of Treasurer on to Peter. Jennifer continues to act as our bookkeeper but any queries about the finances of the church should go to Peter. We will still be looking for a new Treasurer to continue this work in the long term. Thank you to Rebekah!

USING ZOOM WHEN A SCREEN IS BEING SHARED e.g. during a Powerpoint Presentation

You will get a better experience of Zoom during presentations by following two simple steps.

  1. Make sure that you are watching in Speaker View and not Gallery view.
  2. If you are using a laptop, watch in “Side-by-Side” mode. When you are watching somebody else’s screen being shared, next to their name at the top is a drop-down “View Options” menu. On that select “Side-by-Side Mode.” This will place the image of the speaker to the right of the screen being shared rather than on top of it. You can then click on the boundary between the shared screen and the image of the speaker and enlarge the speaker’s picture (if you should want to do that).
Full instructions on doing this, and on how to change your settings to make it happen automatically, can be found at

The message every week of our Sunday evening Zoom Church is now being recorded and the video posted online for everybody to watch at any time in North Springfield Baptist Church Facebook Group.

The recent announcements from the Government on social distancing and “the rule of six” have major implications on the lives of churches and well as our own lives. Let me sum up what the rules are now.

  • Services in church will be allowed subject to social distancing, but everybody must wear a mask, no congregational singing, services should be “kept short”, no refreshments and no social chatting.
  • No groups of more than six (or one household or bubble” if larger) may gather or socialise indoors or outdoors even when social distancing..
  • HOWEVER the new rules do allow up to six individuals from separate households to gather INDOORS for the first time!. This means that for the first time since March small groups of up to six people can meet in people’s homes for Bible Studies, Prayer Meetings, one-to-one meetings and general fellowship, as long as each household present can stay at least 2 metres from another.

After prayerful consideration the Deacons have decided that we will NOT make plans to start Sunday worship services or any other church activities in the church at this time. We will consider the possibilities again next month but the earliest anything is likely to start is now NOVEMBER.

It is now permitted to start Bible Study Groups, small Prayer Meetings and other fellowship occasions in person. But we must all continue to keep ourselves safe. With Covid infections rising exponentially again we recognise that this freedom to meet with a number of different households indoors will probably change before Christmas, and even within weeks, so we should seize the opportunities while we are able.

DRAW NEAR TO GOD on Zoom at 8 pm every TUESDAY has started again.

Until further notice nobody should enter the premises for any purposes other than essential maintenance, cleaning, etc. We need to keep a record of who has entered the premises when, so if you do so please inform Peter.

People have been asking about making payments to the church’s bank account by Bank Transfer.
Bank Transfer to: North Springfield Baptist Church Sort Code: 40-52-40   Account Number: 00029369

Please keep praying for everybody, and supporting each other through letters and phone calls, Facebook and Zoom video chats.

Now we are allowed to do some face-to-face meetings again! Up to six people from different households will be allowed to meet outdoors OR INDOORS. As long as you are not shielding on medical grounds, if anybody would like Peter to visit you just let me know. Small groups can also now meet outdoors or indoors. For risk assessments could any groups which are starting to meet kindly let me know. I am still very happy to chat on the Church Family mobile or to have a “Zoom Visit” if you prefer. Contact me by Messenger or email for the mobile number.

As we go forward, we very much want to make sure that everybody is doing well. It would be very helpful if you could get back to me by email or text letting me know answers to the following. Thank you so much.

  1. Who (if anyone) are you in regular touch with each week outside of any church meetings?
  2. If you don’t have anyone regularly keeping in touch with you each week, would you like to be linked up with someone who can do this for you and you for them?
  3. Would you be willing to commit to keeping in touch with an additional person if they don’t currently have someone caring for them?

Some folk have still not replied to this request. We would be very grateful if you could do so soon.

Message for Sunday 20th September – the third in our new series THE NEXT STEP

Unusually this message takes the form of notes rather than a full script. You may like to refer back to it after you have shared in the Zoom gathering, or watched the recording on Facebook.

Different NEXT STEPS will be appropriate for each of us at different stages in our personal walk with God. This message explains 10 Ways God could bless you as you take your NEXT STEP in following Jesus. Prayerfully consider what will be right for you to do,

10 Ways God Wants to Bless You

Jesus calls us to be his disciples. But what is the right  NEXT STEP God has for you in your walk with him? There is a phrase from the world of education, “continuing the learning journey”. As discipkes we should all keep on learning and growing in our faith. We thought last week about seven ways we can all be growing up into Christ.

  • Growing in our relationship with God
  • Growing in knowledge and understanding
  • Growing in witness and service
  • Growing in the image of Christ
  • Growing by deeper fellowship
  • Growing in victory
  • Growing in passion

What is the right NEXT STEP for you in your Christian life? HERE ARE 10 Ways God wants to bless you so that you can grow as a Christian – 10 possible next steps.

Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. HEBREWS 10:19-25
