Sing a New Song – we wrote our own psalms

At the end of our series looking at the Psalms our evening congregation each wrote their own psalms. Here are some of them.  They will  be  blessing to you!

God’s love.

Speaker        God loves me!

The Lord has loved me from before I was born,

From before my parents met, God foreknew my name.

He already understood what my character would be;

He had already prepared specific tasks for me;

And he loves me!

All                  God loves all of us.

Speaker        God cares for me.

From the day I was born God has cared for me;

He put me in a loving family who provided for me;

They taught me God’s stories, so I knew of his love,

They taught me to pray and I knew that God heard.

Yes, God really cares for me.

All                  God cares for all of us.

Speaker        God helps me to grow.

Through the challenge of school, God nurtured me;

When I didn’t fit in, God sustained me.

When walking alone I knew God was there;

When rejected by friends, I knew that God cared.

Yes, God helps me to grow.

All                  God helps all of us to grow.

Speaker        God is my rock.

But my life fell apart; I was torn in two;

My security gone with hopes unfulfilled;

Promises broken, I was let down.

I cried out to God – and there was silence;

I shouted at God – and there was nothing;

I screamed aloud to God – but he didn’t respond.

I decided I wouldn’t follow God any more,

I’d look elsewhere, for some good cause.

“What is the point – it might not be true,

All I was taught, all that I ‘knew’.”

But deep down inside God’s Spirit stirred;

For deep in my being I knew the truth!

I didn’t like it – that God wouldn’t answer;

I didn’t like it – that God wouldn’t yield;

I didn’t like it – that God wouldn’t act;

But God was still God – and that was a fact.

Somehow or other God brought me through

Those terrible days when all seemed so blue.

In time I learned to trust him again;

The landscape had changed, but God was the same.

Yes, God is my rock.

All                  God is our rock

Speaker        God leads me onwards.

So here I am (and I’m no longer young)

Still walking with God, still following on,

Still learning to trust, the route always new,

Through tricky terrain with limited views!

My path is unmapped, with blindfolded eyes

I step out in faith, with God as my guide.

God leads me onwards.

All                  God leads us all onwards.

All                  Sing praise to the Lord for his constant love;

Sing praise to the Lord for his faithful care;

Sing praise to the Lord for helping us grow;

Sing praise to the Lord for he is our rock;

Sing praise to the Lord for leading us onwards,

On towards heaven – our home!

Lord, I need your help.

Lord, I need your help.

The Psalmist said, “I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you

In a dry and parched land where there is no water.”

Trouble is: I don’t thirst for you; I don’t long for you.

I find it hard to pray.  I am tempted to do other things and get them crossed off my list instead.

Tomorrow is Monday again;

The thought of the new working week is daunting.

If I don’t draw close to you today

How will I draw close to you tomorrow?

But Lord, here I am, in my room, at prayer.

Please give me a sign of your love;

A symbol that I may cling on to during the week ahead;

A token of hope for the remainder of my life on earth.

Teach me, Lord, to gain your perspective on life;

An eternal perspective; higher than the daily troubles which drag me down.

Teach me to understand what is important each day,

To not be concerned with things I cannot control,

But to do better at making changes that are my responsibility –

The tasks that you, in your love, have allocated to me.

Lord I want to partner with you,

I want you to work with me.

Lord, let me catch your vision for me,

And understand your activity in my life,

Your presence in the daily, mundane and repetitive tasks.

Then I will know what to pray about,

And my prayers will become effective and relevant.

But I need your help Lord;

Lord, teach me to pray.

Amen.

Give thanks to the Lord!

Leader         Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good;

All                His love endures for ever.

All                His love endures for ever.

All                His love endures for ever.

All                His love endures for ever.

All                His love endures for ever.

All                His love endures for ever.

All                His love endures for ever.

Leader         And shows the whales where to find krill;

All                His love endures for ever.

Leader         Rejoice in the Lord for he is good;

All                His love endures for ever.

I wonder

I wonder what it was like before time began

When there was just God: Father, Spirit and Son?

To think that they had me in mind even then

And knew all about me: what would happen to me

How I would look, what I would do, say and think

And all through those years when creation began

When Adam and Eve left the garden in shame

My salvation was planned and so was yours

God’s love reached our beyond time and space

And Jesus prepared to die in my place

I cannot imagine what Jesus went through

Knowing what was going to happen

Deserted by His friends,

Agonising in the garden

False accusations

A lynch mob

The pain of crucifixion

Then cut off from his Father as he took my place

One human soul in a vast universe

When billions and billions of people have been, are and will be

He looked at me and said child come to me

I want you as part of my kingdom

You are so special I want you to be with me

And so one day when this creation is at an end

It will beyond imagining

I will be with Him and praise Him and praise Him

Forever, and ever, and ever, and ever

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .Wow!

My Father’s House

Come and go with me to My Father’s House,

There are many mansions there, in My Father’s House,

There is room for you and me, in My Father’s House,

There is joy and harmony, in My Father’s House,

I go to make a place for you, in My Father’s House,

I’ll come back and take you to My Father’s House,

You know where I’m going, to My Father’s House,

I am the only way, to My Father’s House,

Oh come and go with me, to My Father’s House,

Where there is peace forever, peace forever, peace.

There is a place

“There is a place where I end and you begin.
Where I am nothing and you’re everything.
A place where I am afraid;  no hope but to trust.
Where seeking you is not optional its a must

Where self gives way to your unhindered sway
and where your love find jars of broken clay

Needy and full of sin, that’s all I have and that all I am, empty and ashamed all to lose, nothing to win.

I desire to trust but it’s hard to let go, I desire good, yet evil is all I know. Lord I am weak and helpless, give not just your rod but also your staff, I am unable sing, I am unable to laugh

You throw your arms arm around me in, vales dark and deep, you left your mountain tops you said I am your sheep. You kill the fatted calf and offered me a ring, but I am nothing I am a worm I cried, in a gentle whisper, I heard you small voice, if you were really nothing, then why would I have died?”

There will be another post with more of our psalms soon.
